Rosepark, Balrothery, Co Dublin Balrothery Excavations Vol.1 by Judith Carroll published in 2008.

balrothery-1 The excavation at Rosepark was centered on a complex of ditches discovered by aerial photography. The findings, which are divided into five phases, revealed a hilltop enclosure comprising a large number of ditches, burnt features, cereal-drying kilns, souterrains, structures and an entranceway to the complex. There were human burials at the highest point of the enclosure.

The findings, along with radiocarbon dates, suggest that the site was occupied throughout most of the 1st millenium AD. The hilltop enclosure was defended by ditched defences but the site may have also fallen out of use as a habitation site by the 9th century AD. It is proposed that the site was fortified bu the first Anglo-Norman invaders in the late 12th century.
